Our Founder, Laurence Reuben

Laurence Reuben, RN, CMC As a Registered Nurse, I bring over two decades of professional and personal experience in advocacy, care management and leading support groups.

My interest in medicine began after my mother died. I volunteered as a candy-striper in high school, and following a stint in the Air Force, I enrolled in nursing school.

Over my nursing career I have focused on giving a voice to patients and families who so often get overridden by the system. I have served in several advocacy positions, including on the Patient and Family Advisory Council of New York Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, and most recently at a skilled nursing facility here in the Detroit area.

In my personal life, I served as care manager and advocate for my late wife. Her fearless and courageous 18 year battle against metastatic breast cancer inspired me to pursue a career in care management. I have such empathy for patients and their families. I’ve been there! I am passionate about advancing patient-centered care and promoting quality of life outcomes. I have a successful track record, of making a difference.

I believe strongly in promoting patient preferred practices. Partnering requires courage, patience, and determination over time. Building on my experience and professional knowledge of the health care system, I create innovative partnerships through cross-sector collaboration to create sustainable solutions that are inclusive, imaginative, and integrated to tackle the most intractable challenges. Empowering care partners to be actively involved, becomes a primary driver to promoting quality of care and humanizing care.

I partner with clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to make the caring process present throughout all interactions with patients, families, and workers. Utilizing over two decades of professional and personal experience. My goal is to seek solutions through developing and improving communications that positively impacts on improved relationships and enhanced clinical outcomes. The result is an exceptional patient and family experience, and one that inspires collaboration among health team members, improves patient engagement and satisfaction.

How nurse care managers are different

What makes a nurse care manager stand apart from the others is the commitment to stay focused on the needs of the client and family. Others may offer services for less, but what you receive cannot help but be influenced by how they are paid.

Senior advisors are paid referral fees to suggest elder care facilities. As a general rule, they have a more limited sphere of knowledge and do not hold a professional degree needed to give them expertise in the 8 key areas of elder care. Only those facilities willing to pay a finder’s fee will be included in their list of suggestions. There may be a more appropriate option, but it will not be mentioned if the facility does not pay for referrals.

Because we are paid directly by you, we are independent and objective. Our focus is 100% on the needs of your family and your aging loved ones. We apply our considerable skill and years of training to your unique situation.

Hospital- or insurance-based case managers are employees of the health care system. They are good professionals. Their focus, however, is to address the issues of patients within the institution and to make efficient use of services for their organization.

We are based in the community and work with aging adults wherever they live. We provide continuity of care across all settings. We include the family and focus on improving quality of life for the older adult and their grown children.

When the issue is safety and quality of life, you deserve the best!
